In the 1990s and beyond, dub influenced techno, house, ambient, and hip hop. Musicians such as Massive Attacks, Bauhaus, The Clash, The Orb, Underworld and Bill Laswell demonstrated clear dub styling in their respective genres. Their innovations have in turn brought about a mainstreaming of the dub genre.

After the well-known success of Body & Soul, François K. took a major turn to introduce his fresh new approach of fusing elements from Jamaican Dub and Techno. This became a sweet alloy of dub reggae and electronic. This single Rootsman shows a beautiful pavement between 90s school of dub and the sound of roots dub, combining shrill horns and echoing piano play alongside a driving back beat.

The dub originator U-Roy was the first to lyrically "toast" (talk or sing) over instrumental dub, telling stories or making comments reflecting the climate of Jamaica in the 1970s. U-Roy takes a major roll in chanting on FKs tech-house meets reggae beat.

Featured on Francois K.s groundbreaking compilation Deep Space NYC Vol. 1, this single will be well received by a wide range of music fans and tastemakers. Techno heads, house heads, fans of world music and even the school of jazz will groove to the sweet riddim of Rootsman.
