A Hundred Birds' "Dance Music meets Orchestral Unit on Christmas" brings the element of the musicianship in house music to the foreground, perhaps more so than in any way done before. To hear classic house tracks done by a talented, full orchestra is to be awed by house music's quality and complexity for the first time. The depth of live instruments gives an anti-electric human power that engulfs any speaker system conceived. Fresh, modern, and full-circle.
For the past seven years, DJ Yoku has led a 30 piece orchestra, A Hundred Birds (AHB), playing house and disco music in an annual Christmas event. "Dance Music meets Orchestral Unit on Christmas" features live singers, a full orchestra performing AHB original tracks along with covers of classic dance tracks.
The show converts computer sounds to the warmth of live instruments, and live vocals. This year, AHB released "GEORGIA" and "JAGUAR"/"So Eye On" on WAVE.
This year will feature two drum sets and two bass sets opposite and will feature tracks such as AHB
Orchestra's version of DJ Gregory's ELLE.
Last year, Yoku took over as conductor and
brought the concept of the DJ booth to a giant scale, controlling the drums and basses as a human cross fader, moving across the conductors box to start and stop the drums and basses in the same way that a DJ mixes two records. This year will mark the second time the show takes place in Tokyo as well as Osaka. Don't miss the chance to see music done new-century style.
