Tony grew up in Liverpool listening to his father’s soul, disco and funk records. He later spent time with a hip hop crew from Manchester’s neighborhood Old Trafford called The Rebels In Effect, and hip hop shaped his musical direction. He ended up deejaying at almost every relevant club or bar in Manchester. Spinning rare groove, salsa and deephouse records, it is Lionni’s profound knowledge of the history of black music that makes his techno tracks so striking and soulful, fusing the subtlety of Detroit techno with an overwhelming euphoria.
Tony Lionni is one of the most exciting newcomers in tech house, with releases on Mule Electronic, Versatile, Aesthetic Audio, and in 2009 his third release on Wave Music “The Games People Play EP”, and the notable hit “Found A Place” on Osgut Ton. He recently moved to Berlin and joined the DJ booking agency Kinetic-a.m. Some of his club dates include Yellow in Tokyo (RIP), Berghain in Berlin, The End in London and the Sonar Festival. He also recently did a mix for the RA podcast series.
