do your fingers rub the face when you twist the knobs?

or do you grab the knob higher up?

i have some older pieces that have the same issue,
as well as some that are very old in almost pristine condition...

think it's due to how/where a user grasps the knob maybe?

Thats the wierd thing, I don't think my fingers are rubbing it because I don't grab the knobs that low. And the knobs themselves don't actually make contact with the face so I don't know whats causing it.

My GSA Isolator silkscreening is still perfect, and I use it, so, I would think someone's fingers are dragging over the screening.

My Urei mixers silkscreening is also perfect, and when I worked in clubs, the clubs mixers also had worn away screening. Fingers are pretrty much always the culprit.

The system your GSA is in? Is this a system you rent out? IF SO, operator error.

You could be right about my fingers touching it. If so its not something I am conciouse of. I would have to disagree about fingers being the culprit though, I would say inferior silk screening is the culprit. I have never had this problem on any of my mixers or any other gear which is several years old and all have silk screened face plates. Whatever, I'm still enjoying the unit very much.

The urei 1620,s in clubs were also prone to having worn away silkscreening. MY gear does not. I grab the knob towards to top, many grab the knobs with their fingertips actually on the faceplate as the turn and twiddle them. Even though you are doing this without being conscious of it, it is what is happening.

Some manufacturers now prefer to have their faceplates powder coated and powder coating is MORE durable, whether you think it looks as good is up to the individual, I prefer the look of screening.

You can take the face plate and ad a clear coat or lacquer but you need to know what the original paint was to do it right. I have the same problem with our hire mixers and in some of our clubs but it shouldn't have happened so quick as it doesn't seem to of happened to anyone else's, maybe it was in the curing of the screen paint of that faceplate!
I'm sure Mario will know whether he has had any problems with any of the screen prints, maybe you could buy another faceplate and coat it!

not bad! in just about 3 months (about one a day), nice work!

i'd be curious about these products, but the majority of performers for my clients all use the eqs on djs mixers and can barely be trusted for that, lol

I find i use my gear and every other DJ i know looks at it. Probably as most DJ's in melbourne have never used a rotory, let alone seen a isolator or custom SL1200's.

I'm getting my new GSA isolator very soon and i'm looking foward to it, So if anyone in Melbourne wants to try one out before they buy you can contact me at KLAD audio or 48 Records.

a solution for the silk screens is to insert a piece of thin clear plastic between the chassis and knobs.
