God bless this mess

I was bored one day and decided to try and mix on the couch. Sadly my legs went asleep with the mixer on my lap and I kept hitting the turntables with my elbows causing the needles to skip.

My next project will be a tv tray big enough to hold two 1210s and a mixer.

A recent PBell Sound gig. 6 x Bassmaxx subs & 4 x McCauley tops per side. 49,600 watts. Monitors seen behind, McCauley 2 x dual 18 subs & 2 x dual 15 + 2 inch tops, 8,000 watts. The system was dimming the house lights on a 600 amp 3 phase service.

I found this set up on Facebook. Does anybody know what turntables they are? Not sure how you'd mix on those? Do you think those boxes either side are some sort of pitch control?

Audiophile Speaker Stands :-D

I'm looking for some Linn Sara or Epos ES14 open frame stands if any one has some in the UK.

Micro Seiki DDX-1000s

here's one for sale on Epay for grins...

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Micro-Seiki-...em1c 29059bff

thinking the big black knob is for pitch control, but doesn't look like the auction's assembly is exactly the same....
maybe it's a different model TT or Control unit?

I always did want to try out one of those PMC-CX mixers. I've heard they sound a lot like a PMC-37, one of which I have laying around.

A very "laid back" sound. Different from a Urei or a Bozak, but I'm not sure I'd say worse. Came along at the end of the Analog DJ Mixer era, so in some ways Vestax had probably mastered the craft by then.

I don't know, I always classed Vestax as over priced junk back in the day.
I remember drooling endlessly over their mixers when I was a kid, trying them out was another story lol

Can't talk for the new mixers they did and the PMC-CX does looks interesting.
I can't help but feel the analogue VU's are just gimmicky though

I got it secondhand, for a decent price, worth the money. Now that I've tried it, I'm happy that I didn't buy a new one.
the sound is good, with a great bass response. the mids and highs are indeed laidback, the mids could be bit clearer in my opinion. My Freevox sounds better, thats for sure, but it lacks the fun factor that the vestax has.
The VU meters are indeed a gimmick, there are LED's for the channels, so why not put LED's for the master? but hey, they look cool

The faders and pots feel good, but they aren't all that special. the pots are all Alps, both in the isolators and the gain knobs. Nothing special, but good pots nonetheless. the faders are a bit of let down, I expected something expensive, like railed, magnetic, non contact etc, but theyre just beefy carbontracks.

I picked up a Vestax R1 on Ebay from a guy in LA a year or so ago for $700 USD shpping included. I must say that I totally love it and have put it through the ringer and then some. Its a fantastic unit, built like a tank and it sounds better than 90% of the mixer ive ever played on (not quite as good as a 1620 or a Bozak but close!) although I would have never paid the original price for it back in the day $6000 + or something stupid like that. It is the mixer I use most and really enjoy playing on it, definitely sounds best with wax imo. All other Vestax mixers dont even compare to the R1, its in a league all its own.

Today was a good day, got these KEF Reference speakers for wait for it 50
I'm going to put them in the living room to replace the Tannoy M1's I have there, I still prefer my 104aB's...
Now how long before I find some vintage Tannoy dual concentrics or Quad amplification for next to nothing lol

Charles that's lovely, are the Tannoy's the System 600's or 800's?

Thought I'd finally post my little setup, all the way from Down Under!

And this is the under side of the sub, which is the coffee table looking thing in between the speakers.

On top of the sub are two Vincent mono block amps that drive the monitors, which are high-passed. The Bozak is a recently purchased DLC built by Buzzy Beck. Previous to that I was using an old DLA. I also have an original 1620 and a Xone 42 in the cupboard, but I don't think i'll be swapping out this Bozak for a while!
