A new set up for a party we had over the weekend - Traktor sounded pretty good through the Urei. I added 2 x 1210's later.

Hi CJ,

What were you using as a controller before you added the 1210's? I am still only spinning vinyl, but definitely need to move forward so I can play all my salsa and newer dance stuff at my gatherings at home. Ive got a pair of 1200MKII's and a Bozak and would like to keep that path without anything in between. So I would be looking to use the 2 AUX inputs on the Bozak for playing full WAV files using Traktor or Serato.

Hey there!

I don't own a controller - I just use the mouse and keyboard. You see the stickers on the extremities of the keyboard? That's the volume up and down for each deck on Traktor. The buttons next to those also control the bass for each deck and that's it - very basic but ensures smooth blends Yeah I could mix using the Urei but I like to control the bass for each track during the mix and preferred to keep my hands in the one position. With the 1210's in place I just mixed normally through the Urei. We had some non dj friends over who can't beat match so traktor was their only option for the night

This is how I play out -- with the console facing upward (I figure you guys had seen 1200s and Yamaha NS-10s before, hehe.)

1620LE, with no phono cards, on the bottom. I have the internal jumper set so that Channel 6 doesn't go to the Booth Out. This enables Booth Out/Channel 6 In to act as a Send/Return to reverb.

Pioneer EFX-1000 in 1620LE effects loop. The "brackets" holding the EFX upright are cheap metal bookends with velcro.

The reverb unit is a TC Electronic M-ONE XL.

Serato SL-3.

Remainder of Signal Chain: 1620LE -> Bozak Isolator -> A&H Xone VF-1 Filter.

This is my new music room, i've replaced the Xone 42 with a rotary Empath as i've started to scratch.

It's an amazing mixer, probably the best i've had all round. I've also got an efx 1000 and i'm really pleased with the sound......

You think the Empath Rotary is nice Jimbo?

I got rid of my E&S DJR400 last year but kinda miss the rotary alot.. The Empath Rotary seems like a nice solid mixer without costing the world or having to build a console around a rack mount.. So is top of my list atm.

I absolutely love it! It's the only mixer i've ever played on (and i've played on just about all the high end mixers) that doesn't feel like there's something missing. I know some people may think that the lack of channels is a bad thing, but for me personally, 3 is enough. It's built like a tank, the sound is great with line & phono (that was a big problem with the Urei).

I know some of the die hards on here won't look at anything but a bozak/urei, and thats cool, horses for courses and all that. But me personally, I like to balance functionality with quality, and the Empath has both.

Get one!!!

DJ rig with my wife's laptop currently plugged in, thus the track selections

Urei 1620LE mods: panpots (except on mic channels) removed, tone circuitry removed, routing circuitry removed (except on rightmost channels).

Considering a Bozak Isolator mod to add 15 dB gain per channel.

Also awaiting shipment of this 1978-built EQ for the top rack space:

How's this for ghetto it's not even hooked up hahahah

When you start accumulating a load of ol'junk like me it soon becomes apparent you need another room...the only bummer being when that person comes back and wants to stay in that room hahah That shit will stay like that for 2 weeks

Here is a old pic from 03 of the place I used to play at...The KS rack was mine that I sold to my mate for more shit in return hahah buy sell buy sell oh it's never ending. At least with DJ'ing I'm settled on 1210's and have been and Urei is just fine...but with studio gear YOU know you just sooo want that Sh101

Smile My Bender EQ!

Hey Everybody,

I had the pleasure of meeting Shorty a few weeks back and checking out his reference system which is DA BOMB! I wanted to know how this unit worked so we listened to a variety of music on vinyl, MP3 & WAV formats and I was very much impressed how easy you can fix a bad recording with this unit! By the time the demo was over I bought one. While there I also checked out all Thrive amps as well as the Bad Neighbor which will be my next purchase! Here are a few pix of the unit in my console.

Peace & Love,

Very nice set up! Who did the mod for your Bozak? Blue LED per channel and the headphone jack! How does the per channel LED works?
