Kevin,

Amazing sub build, when you say builder did you pay someone to build them for you?

And if you don't mind me asking how much did that run of subs cost you? The build and the actual drivers?

Yes I paid someone to build them for me. I used one of the designers authorized builders as I wanted to be sure they were done right. I got a very good price on them due to the number of cabs ordered on this run, the fact that I may order 2 more in a few months, and because I had him build me 4 of the smaller "Tuba 24" subs a year ago. As far as numbers go Iits safe to say I am his number 1 customer at this point lol.

Unforntunatley part of my deal to get that great price was that I not tell anyone what he charged me. I will say that for the amount of work involved it was a very fair price. They are Tuba 36 slims in a 24" wide version and loaded with Eminence Kapalite 3015LF drivers which have been recomended by the cab designer Bill Fitzmaurice. If you are interested in contacting the builder I would be happy to give you his contact info.

Yeah man I'd love that, although it may be a while until I'm actually ready to follow through on it.

Thanks Kevin.

are they 2" drivers on the Gauss horns? Is that Gauss horn like the JBL 2350 (90x40 degree radial?)

what woofers are you using?

Its a 2" throat horn. Id say is more like a Jbl 2397, or smith type horn. It has a lower ouput than the lens type horns, but I like the sound of them. I don't know the dispersion, but it has alot of horizontal coverage. I'm using the B & C Neo 15" drivers. It took alot of messing around to get the cabinets tuned. I used scrap wood to make a buch of different size openings in the front till i found one that sounded good.

my testing photo

Sorry for the bad, messy pic...

but thought i would share it anyway...

the boxes are Altec Bolero 890As....

I bypassed the internal crossover,
and am going to turn some mini-smith horns to be used
in place of the Frazier horns/drivers on top of the cabinets now

the 10" 406As are fed with that Dynakit ST-70 (there are two of them total , one per box with a passive radiator )

the Frazier (soon to be ALtec 802G on mini-smith horn) is on a Crown D75

the Altec 3000G tweeter is fed with a crown D75 as well

I'll post some more pics whenever i get done with the horn building project, and complete refinishing the cabinets...

but they sound very nice for small "bookshelf" type speakers....

still have that Altec technicolor midrange

and when i'm done, i'll have them in a bookshelf...
woofers on top, tweeter in the middle, smith horn below

they'll look like this

O O

This is the setup I design at Venue in Houston. www.venuehouston.com I like the 801 Monitors that are together with 2 EV Active Subwoofers. We use a DBX Drierack for all the House system. I must say that its one of the best sound systems in Houston . South Beach (a club in Montrose area) have an Avalon Sound system IMO They need to re-adjust all that system to give the 100%.

Got my Rane yesterday, fit like a glove in my homemade 19" rack! Very nice piece... though doesn't feel quite as tough as I would have expected (hadn't used one in a while). Very nice to mix on though... beats my old Xone 92 rotary with a stick, though I think I'll miss the filters!
