Sbs Analog Hifi Sound System On The Next Level.

My client decided to contact me to build and design a system of this magnitude because he wanted to go real high-end, very exotic, ultra hifi and did not want a digital sound system.

Here will be the list of gear

1 SBS S3X 3 way xover
1 Thrive Audio Program EQ
1 Thrive Audio Bad Neighbor
1 Thrive Audio Isolator
1 Summit Audio DCL 200 Compresor
1 Urei 1620 mixer
2 SBS Modified Bryston 10B xovers
3 BSS 966 OPAL system eqs

1 SBS console
5 SBS SBH 2.18 with extensions
8 SBS FLH 215 TAD 1603 Loaded
8 SBS FLH 112 TAD 1201 Loaded (Trapazoid)
8 SBS SMH 4002 (Trapizoid)
4 SBS STA LOADED WITH 16 JBL 2402 TWEETERS

1 Mark Levinson Amplifier NO. 331 driving 8 TAD 4002, comp drivers
1 Krell FPB 400cx Driving 8 TAD 1201s
4 Thrive Audio Maya amplifiers driving 16 TAD 1603s
2 Thrive Audio Alva Amplifiers on 16 JBL Tweeters
3 Crown MA 3600s on 5 Bass horns

All the speaker wire will be 10 Gauge Cardas, we are deciding on signal and real High-end converters now, so this is not decided yet, but will keep you updated on this shortly.

Yeah

That is some serious components. Way in the 6 figure range alone.

Congrats Shorty - this really is taking it to the next level.

And while you're in Mykonos, if you have a chance, I highly recommend a little restaurant called Coo. We ate there twice while on our honeymoon. Like everything else in the Old Town area, it can be a bit tricky to find in the maze of streets, so you may have to ask people where to find Coo.

wow what a list of components i can just imagine the cost of the speaker wire alone will be well into 5 figures

that system should render you proper audiophile quality on a much larger scale

thats some serious audio

Here will be the new list of gear with a slight change in amps, so far

1 SBS S3X 3 way xover
1 Thrive Audio Program EQ
1 Thrive Audio Bad Neighbor
1 Thrive Audio Isolator
1 Summit Audio DCL 200 Compresor
1 Urei 1620 mixer
2 SBS Modified Bryston 10B xovers

8 SBS FLH 112 TAD 1201 Loaded (Trapazoid)
8 SBS SMH 4002 (Trapizoid)
4 SBS STA LOADED WITH 16 JBL 2402 TWEETERS

1 Dual monaural Class A, Mark Levinson Amplifier NO. 331 driving 8 TAD 4002, comp drivers
2 Krell FPB 400cx Class A Amplifier Driving 8 TAD 1201s
4 Thrive Audio Maya amplifiers driving 16 TAD 1603s
2 Thrive Audio Alva Amplifiers on 16 JBL Tweeters
3 Crown MA 3600s on 5 SBS Bass horns W/Extensions

We still havent come to a decision yet on our D to A converters for the cd players, but will come to that shortly.

I also forgot to mention that the Levinson NO. 331 is a Dual Monaural fully Class A amplifier. The Krell FBP amps are Fully Class A aswell, so the midrange combined with the Thrive Audio Maya on the TAD Loaded Bass with all our processing should be spectacular.

We have also decide to go all single phase electric, so the whole warehouse is being converted electricly to single phase.

We are also doing power quality conditioning + filtering for each amp & processor, so its good power quality feeding all the product.

More updates on this Audiophile system comming soon

does a sort of "club centric" rig like this qualify as "audiophile"?

to be quite honest, when i think "audiophile" I am more likely to think in terms of something like this...

http://www.vt52.com/diy/diypage/hedlund/hedlund.html

i agree that the components and electronics are top notch, as i am sure the cabinets are as well...
but what is "audiophile" and what is more PA?

just curious, some folks i have spoken to claim that "hi-fi" from the 50s/60s is no longer "hi-fi" by modern standards....

would Westlake Monitors be considered "audiophile" or "hi-fi" also?

Tad loaded Westlakes would be with very Hi quality amps,

This is a audiophile system designed and built on a pro level, for a nightclub application, im afraid those speakers in the pic, would not work for this application as you know. Yes they are HiFi speakers for a audiophile client for a consumer application in a home,

I made a coment in this Thread in describing it as a audiophile system because that is what my client is, and with the products i am using

au·di·o·phile, A person having an ardent interest in stereo or high-fidelity sound reproduction.

i saw you are using 10 gauge cardas speaker wire.
what wire and connectors are you using for audio signal connections?
why the conversion to single phase?
and what is being used for power conditioning and filtering?
will it be similar to the setup Mr.Li (worlds #1 audiophile ) is using?

Lets start a new thread on electrical power, and I will explain single phase -vs- 2 and 3 phase AC power, and why some things work better with some syetms, and why!

I'm curious about the mods to the 10B crossovers since they come off the shelf as a 2-way. Do you have the crossover points modified so you can use one on the subs and mid bass, and the other on mids and highs? Will Bryston do custom work, or is that an SBS mod?

<edit> Or are you using them in mono as a 3 way? I was assuming you had a 4-way full range, but i'm not so sure now. Do you have bullets on the full range?

out my mods, so i will not post any info on this, they are prepriotory agreements i have with Bryston to build certain products for SBS around my parameters & i then do additional modifications to them after i recieve them, these additional mods are warrentied by Bryston aswell. So i cant disclose any info to answer this for you

OK I understand. I wasn't trying to get specifics, just trying to understand how flexible the 10B's are. I am in the market for a nice full range crossover and am considering the Urei 525 and the 10B.

It sure would be nice to have a warranty though.

Sure did. Someone got a decent deal on it too. 525's are almost that much these days, but at least I would only need one.

So im outta here

to install this HiFi sound system,

1 more upgrade and change to the system to make it superior then original layout. We replaced the Mark Levinson No. 331, for a Mark Levinson No. 335. The No. 335 comes from the 334,335, 336 series, it is a superior series to the 331 series of ML amps all the way around. it will be driving 8 TAD compression drivers for midrange.

ill post my thoughts on my trip and install twards the end of the week.

Here will be the entire new list of gear with a slight change in amps,

Gear:

1 SBS S3X 3 way xover
1 Thrive Audio Program EQ
1 Thrive Audio Bad Neighbor
1 Thrive Audio Isolator
1 Summit Audio DCL 200 Compresor
1 Urei 1620 mixer
2 SBS Modified Bryston 10B xovers
3 BSS 966 OPAL system eqs
4 AudioNote Vacuum Tube Dacs

1 SBS console
5 SBS SBH 2.18 with Extensions
8 SBS FLH 215 TAD 1603 Loaded
8 SBS FLH 112 TAD 1201 Loaded (Trapazoid)
8 SBS SMH 4002 (Trapizoid)
4 SBS STA LOADED WITH 16 JBL 2402 TWEETERS

1 Dual monaural Class A, Mark Levinson Amplifier NO. 335 driving 8 TAD 4002, comp drivers
2 Krell FPB 400cx Class A Amplifier Driving 8 TAD 1201s Mids
4 Thrive Audio Maya amplifiers driving 16 TAD 1603s
2 Thrive Audio Alva Amplifiers on 16 JBL Tweeters
3 Crown MA 3600s on 5 SBS Bass horns W/Extensions

Booth system and additional product

Processing:

1) SBS S3X 3 way Booth Xover
1) BSS EQ`S
1) Ashley XR Series xover (Booth fullrange Xover)

Drivers:

2) TAD ET 703
2) JBL Compresion Drivers
2) Low Mid drivers
8) JBL 10 in Bass Drivers
4) JBL Subbass Drivers

Amps:

1 Thrive Audio Alva, on TAD ET 703 Tweeters
1 Thrive Audio Syla, on Comp drivers
1 Thrive Audio Reya, on Low mids
1 Crown Macro Reference 1, on MidBass
1 Crown MA 5002vz, on Subbass

We have upgragded on the low midrange amps driving the TAD 12s from 1 Krell FBP 400 cx, to 2 Krell FBP 300cx amps, these seem to work a little bit better in the low midrange from what i have heard between the 2 amps when demoed.

I have been on the phone with Krell and they aswell agreed with the change. I will play games with the FBP 300, and FBP 400 again once i am out their and the install is completed to come to the best results with this system.

I also forgot to mention that the Levinson NO. 335 is a Dual Monaural fully Class A amplifier. The Krell FBP amps are Fully Class A aswell, so the midrange combined with the Thrive Audio Maya on the TAD Loaded SBS Bass horns with all our processing should be spectacular.

We have also decide to go all single phase electric, so the whole warehouse is being converted electricly to single phase.

We are also doing power quality conditioning + filtering for each amp & processor, so its good power quality feeding all the product.
