Formula Sound FSM 600, case and a VU meter

Hello everyone,

I've been checking the forums for a while and i find it a great source for anything cool. Respect goes to all of you. I hope my visits here will not confine within the "trading post" forum.

I have just listed my Formula Sound FSM 600 mixer, a custom build 19" case and a VU meter on ebay.

1. The mixer - There's not a big hype around these, but it's not because Formula Sound build bad mixers , it's just because they have this strange marketing strategy (or it's just the lack of marketing strategy). Apart from the UK (and their modular mixers), Formula Sound recently gained some reputation worldwide with their FF6000 (designed for Funktion One). So FF6000 is the updated version of the FSM600. I took the time to look for Formula Sound treats here and there were both - positive and negative thoughts about it. About the sound - I am using the FSM600 in my Funktion One sound system - you all know well that there's no compromise in sound quality for a setup like this. I wouldn't like to compare it to the Bozak, the Rane, and the A&H which i also owned (and own) because i like them all. I don't believe at all in "what's best" when you have these options. Some DJ's find the mixer a bit tricky at the beginning (the EQ don't have the option for a full cut), but if you come from the vintage rotary mixer world - that's not a big deal - you're used NOT to have EQ at all. Some of the true advantages of the Formula Sound FSM600 - If you have 2 passive full range speakers and a sub you need a crossover for the lower freq's. Most crossovers on the market are really lame, and who needs an expensive speaker management system for just 3 speakers. No problem - you have a dedicated mono sub output at 70hz, which you can put to higher frequency response internally. Another cool feature is that you can actually adjust the gain sensibility - for example - usually we get the much more quiet signal from the RIAA input and sometimes we turn the gain to it's maximum to achieve 0db/+3 db/+6db, while same time the CD input gain is set to quoter to 12 to get the same levels. Using just a small internal knob you can match all your channel gains to be set at 12h getting same signal levels. It's a 6 channel mixer, there are 4 of the channels which can be set to RIAA or line, 2 channels have Mic inputs, so with some minor adjustments you can get 12 line inputs or 8 line inputs + 4 phono and 2 mics. Internal jumper allows you to switch the mics to phantom power and there are also limiters on the mic channels. Not bad for a DJ mixer you can also set the EQ range to your taste. There's a stereo and mono (summed, unbalanced) master output, zone outputs, the booth outputs of course. You can also find at the back of the FSM600 Remote Music Mute which you can connect to the alarm system, or what I would do with it is - you can throw an underground warehouse party and just leave someone outside the venue. He can turn down the music when the police's coming There are also 2 record outputs instead of just one that we usually find on most DJ mixers. I love this because i rip my records to the reel 2 reel and the computer at same time. This actual unit is in great working and cosmetic condition - some marks from rack mounting in the corners. The only problem is some minor distortion in the headphone output at higher volumes, which i see that other members here also had with the FSM600. The FF6000 i played at a festival last month also was having the same problem, so i think that the guys from Formula Sound have to deal with this. I'm sure i can be fixed, but i don't have the time and knowledge to do it. List price for these in Europe is 1150.00

OK - some pictures here, sorry - i'm not the best photographer:

2. I can include a custom build case for it. The case was originally build for my Rane XP2016, so owners of these can put inside the mixer + expander + VU meter or isolator. The case is 7U high and deep enough for any of those mixers with bottom connectors. There's a back opening for cable connections.

Here you can get some idea about it:

The mixer can be positioned by angle:

3. And finally here's the VU meter for sale - great addition to any rotary mixer setup.

Here's link to eBay, but keep in mind that everything is subject to negotiation. I am selling the mixer because i have the FF4000 now (my life believes that i don't really need that much equipment in the living room).

I almost forgot - if you're interested in something hit me for shipping quote. The items are comfortably packed and ready to ship from the sunny Burgas - town on the Black Sea coast, Bulgaria, Europe.

PM for any questions you may have even if it's just a nice chat about music and gear.

Cheers everyone
