Sonifex phone preamp

Hello

I'm looking to get a rackmounted dual phono stage so that I can connect my turntables to an E&S 2 X 3004 isolator, which will in turn be connected to my Bozak DLS.

I've come across the Sonifex RB-PA2, which I believe is widely used for broadcast by the BBC.

Anyone have any experience of this unit?

I'm trying not to spend too much on preamps, but at the same time I don't want to put something too cheap in my audio chain which diminish the quality of the other units.

Any suggestions appreciated.

I saw one of these in a shop here in Lisbon, but haven't heard it yet. Retails for 599 Euros and includes two pairs of inputs and outputs, switchable between line and phono, with an option to switch between tube and solid state. I'm going to try to get one in to test at home. I'm looking at the same setup as you right now - I like the idea of using the E&S double ISO thing to implement per-channel eqs for my Bozak.

And Lehmann do a double-Black-Cube, but I don't think it's rack-mountable:

I'm very interested to see how you go with this as I have been thinking of adding Phono pres to my setup as well!
I have thought I would get some nice HiFi pres and just mount them into a empty rack case!

A bit off topic, but i would like to know something.

It's concerning the E&S 2x3004. There are 2x3 iso. Was wondering how that worked.

Is it 1 for each channel?
Or second one for something else.

I'm a noob when it comes to Isolator. Apologies if you wont be able to understand me.

I asumed he is running the isolators between the turntables and the mixer inputs, so yeah 1 for each channel!
I would probably do the same if i had two isolators!

But wouldn't it be better have 1 overall isolator like the GSA/Bozak/Vestax?

The 2 channel limits your iso capability for only 2 TTs.

Am i missing something here?

Maybe he is only using two turntables in which case it would work fine.

Hi All

Thanks very much for your suggestions.

In answer to the questions above, I'll only be running two turntables since I don't like CDs. The E&S 2 X 3004 allows me to have independent isolation on each channel.

@misterharrisson - Keep us posted on that Russian unit.

Here's another one: the Whest Broadcast WhestTWO/4

http://www.whestaudio.co.uk/s-product.asp?ProductID=17

I suspect it's quite pricey, though, as a single WestTWO will set you back 750 pounds.

A few weeks ago I called up a few audiophile equipment distributors and asked them questions about the upgrade to separate phono preamps - all three said that at $500US, the Simaudio Moon LP3 is the only unit they would choose - take a look at that one also. Not sure of the price in the price in Europe though...

What about getting something custom made by MarioG or Duo Audio? These guys might be able come up with something that might better compliment your mixer and keep that Bozak sound than something designed for broadcast use. From my understanding the phono stage in the Bozak played a major part in it's sound.
