I think the 1200 was originally designed as an audiophile deck.

Also, lots of those "hifi" turntables are quite fragile, as we all know the 1200 is near bomb proof. Most "hifi" turntable are belt driven and have no 33/45 button, so require manually changing the speed by lifting the platter and shifting the belt onto a different pulley, no good for us who collect 12" singles.
