Almost two years of weekly usage and no wear or any audible degrade in sound (over the time I mean).

Overall, I haven't really noticed any difference in sound quality...

if you have purchased the unit in the UK, check out the EU legislation regarding extended warranty. This may override the manufacturer's (voluntary) warranty in many cases.
