Pioneer Nexus DJM 900 + Vinyl = ???

Hi all,

A new bar is opening near me soon and the Nexus DJM 900 is going to be the install mixer there. Has anyone used this mixer with a pair of 1210s? From what I've heard the newer generation of Pioneer mixers do not translate vinyl as well as other brands. I'm tempted to stick with my Ecler Nuo 2.0 which sounds awesome to me, but I just wanted to check with others on here about their experience with the DJM 900 mixer...

By the way I'll be playing house mostly with normal vinyl (not serato or traktor control vinyl).

The DJM 900 is a mayor step up from the DJM 800 soundwise. I'm not sure about the phono pre amps, but some external ones will take care of that.
If you're the only one playing at the club, then you might consider another mixer. If the mixer is being used my more DJ's, yeah, take the DJM 900 its the industry standard after all.

Bars typically don't have sound systems that allow you to discern the difference between good mixers and lousy mixers.

I played on 900 with records, nothing special and I love how they placed the preamps on 1 & 4 instead of across the board. The system I played was in fact solid, but didn't feel the warmness of the mixer sonically

That's true, but at least you'll hear the better sound quality when cueing tracks, so you'll enjoy your set on a personal level more. Also, it's easier and more fun to mix with a quality mixer than some POS.

Personally, I find the newer generation of Pioneers much better sound-wise than the old 600's or 500's. The difference is quite big imo. Still not near the level of the high end mixers, but at least they don't totally suck.

I agree, the 900 is far away better than the 500 & 600 as well as a nice step up from the 800.

No, as it's mass produced for the, well, the masses, it'll never compete with a small batch hand made high end boutique mixer but for a mixer quickly becoming the De Facto standard mixer specified by DJ's and venues, it's pretty decent.
