I have 2 isolators at home, an E&S X3004 (Jerome Barbe - DJ Deep) And a Vestax DCR 1200 (Shite!).

When I took them apart to have a butchers inside I noticed the E&S has blue Alps pots and the Vestax has smaller metal Alps pots.

Obviously the Blue pots are far superior in quality. Now my question is this......

If I were to get some blue pots for the vestax, would it improve the sound dramatically??

How would I know which pots to get?

Help me peeps!!

I don't think it would help. What you gain in better pots usually is better tolerances, resistance to contamination, and greater durability. There can also be a difference in sound when switching from a carbon pot to a ceramic pot. Changing the pots in the dcr 1200 would probably make no difference in sound. I think the problem in sound quality is in the circuit design and changing the pots would not help out.

Thanks for the reply, so you think going further into the circuit would pay, ie, better transistors etc? or a whole new design of circuit?

but better pots in the vestax should improve the durability. the alps pots vestax uses wear out way too fast.

I'm thinking of doing this, i'd like to improve the circuit as well though, anyone know of any resources I could check out to help me along the way?

thanks for all your input...
