Hi there,

Im just about to buy a new mixer- and I have a couple of questions to ask- Im looking at the mid end of the market- (I wish I could afford a Urei or similair- but I have to buy a new car soon!)it would be for home use only and the odd house party- I just want something pretty basic without all the fancy crap that seems to be shoved onto models nowadays (I dont no effects or sampling stuff, kills, crossfader curve adjustment blah, blah!)

Just want a well built unit- with bass, mid, high eq`s, split cue headphone monitoring and a reasonably functional level meter- the most imporatnt thing though is that it has good sound quality as Id be recording some mixes

what sort of thing should I be looking for within the technical specs for mixers? and do you have any recommendations of models- would also be looking for any feedback regarding X-faders versus rotary faders

Many thanks

Pete

well although they would not be my first choice the numark brand of mixers has what you are looking for and sound fairly good. A nice warm sound. Now at this price level you cannot expect to find alps or penny & giles sliders but the mixers sound good. Better than some other brands that may cost more! Rotarys are the best but in this price range of under $1000 you just aint gonna get a good rotary. The rotarys to look for are the urei 1620 or the Bozak cma10-2dl but both of these units will cost you over a grand. You might want to try this website- www.hticsproaudio.com. You might get lucky.

Furman has a DJ mixer (DJ-M8) that you can pick up on ebay from $50-$150. It's 4 channels and has a 3 way eq (4-way on the newer models). There's a crossfader and 2 phono stages. One of my friends got one for home use and it does the trick well. Numarks are cool for several months, but after a while they wear out easily. You can also find the old Numark rotary mixer which is fun too.

Peace
