FK,

I recently bought the Vestax DCR 1200 pro, 4 band frequency Isolator. I am able to grab about 90% of the frequencies that I want to manipulate. However, it becomes frustrating when I want to isolate a frequency that I just can't grab a hold of with this unit.
Did I simply by an inferior unit because of my budget constraints, or did I just buy the wrong type of unit? What is in the booth at 'Vinyl' to isolate frequencies on the fly?

the frequencys chosen on the vestax are the most commonly used frequencys. To be able to hit less common frequencys you would need a variable parametric like the summit ausio eqp-200 or massenburg 8200. However you are talking about components of considerably greater cost. Vinyl has an RLA q- 5000 which has 5 frequencys. but if your trying to hit a freq. like say 3.25khz that wont get it either as the RLA,s points are 50/125,400,1.2khz,4khz,and 8/12khz. They are useful to cut or boost for deficiencies and hot spots in a recording.

the electrix eq killer is a 3 band, but you can vary the frequency of the kills. I have 2 of these units, and they are suitable for home studio or DJ use, but I don't know if they're good enough for pro studio use. btw, the eq killer is discontinued so look on ebay, there's usually a few on there for $100-$150
