...that will allow me to burn music created on my PC to CD at a reasonable enough quality for me to play out? My current card (albeit the soundblaster that came with the PC)makes everything sounds dreadfully tinny (including samples that I have ripped from CD) I am using ACID Pro and Soundforge and recording at 44.1Khz / 16bit.

will be grateful for any recommendations / websites that deal with such matters.

This is of course a vast subject.
We encourage anyone reading this to share their experience with us on what PC audio gear they like. Most of the Wave crew uses 'that other computer system'. (Apple Macintosh)
There are excellent cross-platform offerings, usually a PCI-slot card with external interface box for audio connections and the likes.

For something like what you describe, the M-Box (Mac only for now) sounds great http://www.digidesign.com/ but a little pricey.

In selecting a sound card it will be helpful to clearly understand your goals. (Multichannel, expandable, what format of digital I/O, balanced or unbalanced analog connections, level of support offered by company, etc...)
